The photograph shows discarded Zyklon B cans preserved as evidence of what happened at Auschwitz.
Gabriele Potz looks at them and responds: “They are sold out, they need to be repurchased.”
Potz isn’t asking about conservation, museum supplies or replacing damaged exhibits. In this context, she’s treating the chemical used in Nazi gas chambers as depleted inventory that ought to be replenished.
Most people see those empty cans and remember the people murdered with their contents. Potz sees an empty shelf and starts filling out a purchase order.
