Fred Leuchter was not a chemist, toxicologist or engineer. He was an American execution-equipment salesman who wandered around Auschwitz illegally hammering chunks out of walls, mixed entire masonry samples together and then completely misunderstood the laboratory results.
Leuchter assumed that homicidal gas chambers should contain the same cyanide residue as delousing chambers, ignoring the enormous difference between brief human exposure and the prolonged, repeated fumigation required to kill lice. He also ignored decades of weather exposure and the Nazis’ destruction of the crematoria while fleeing the Soviet advance.
His “report” was prepared for Holocaust denier Ernst Zündel’s defence and has been demolished by historians, chemists and the physical evidence.
But never mind all that. Vilnis has a blurry meme featuring a man with a hammer and no relevant qualifications.
CSI Auschwitz has solved another one, folks.
